The Story Behind Us: Hannah & Nick

How did you meet and when did you both realize your love for travel?

We both live in a small town quite close to each other. We knew each other but never had the chance to meet. Three years ago, we finally met at an underground house party. Romantic isn’t it? 😉

Where was your first destination together and tell us about it?

Our first destination together was a city trip to Rome, Italy. It was a birthday gift from Nick to Hannah. We immediately noticed we both loved being on the road and explore a city together. Rome was beautiful, the food in this city was delicious but the ice cream was indescribable good.

How do you share your work on the road? Who does what?

We both do a bit of everything. When shooting photos or videos Hannah thinks about what should be in the shot en Nick is more about how the shot should be framed. Nick usually writes the articles where Hannah double checks them, creates illustrations and selects the article’s photos. Most of the time Hannah is editing the photos and Nick helps with some minor tweaks and comes up with an Instagram title.

How do you make decisions together for next destinations?

We have a little travel bucket list. So now and then we open up that list and add some new places. When choosing a new destination, it usually doesn’t come out of this list but just a place we’ve heard about and really like to visit, now!

Have you noticed any changes in the relationship since you started traveling together?

Of course, we did! We’ve started our big travels a year ago and from that moment we’ve shared beautiful but also horrible moments. You’ll learn a lot about each other and how to handle certain situations together as a couple. We didn’t notice any changes at that moment but when we look it’s just like getting to know every little detail about each other.

Living and traveling together 24/7 can sometimes be stressful and relate to moments of disagreements or misunderstandings. How do you cope with these situations?

We’re not sure if stressful is the right word. You both have to take decisions sometimes. When we don’t agree on that we sit down and try to figure it out. But like we always say: it’s all good when our belly is filled with food! Empty bellies make us grumpy and we shouldn’t be talking to each other at that moment haha. It may sound a little weird but we learned how to handle these situations.

What is the most beautiful moment you have experienced together while traveling?

We can tell you about all the beautiful places we’ve been but when we have a flashback to a certain period we automatically think about the little things. Scootering around or spending time with locals. I hope that make sense to you.

What do you like the most about traveling as a couple?

If you’re in a f*cked up situation, you’re feeling a bit sad or you’re not sure which decision you should make then your other half is there to fix all of that. Another thing we like is that we can share those memories and the feelings that come with it together.

What do you like the least about traveling as a couple?

Most of the travelers don’t come and talk to travel couples because they think we wouldn’t like it. So a thing we don’t like is: making friends on the road (that are not couples) can be hard sometimes since we’re a couple. We really love to hang out with people, travel and spend some time together.

How do you keep the relationship spark alive on the road?

That’s a really good question. It can be hard since you’re seeing and talking to each other 24/7. It’s good to go out with other people and spend the night with them. Talking to them, learning new things and most of all, creating new friendships is really important.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to any couple wanting to travel together?

Stop listening to other people’s their opinion and just pack your bags!
